Lego Batman Birthday Bonanza!

by

As a mom of two young boys, the majority of my life involves Lego’s in some capacity.  It is because of this love of Lego’s that it came as no surprise to me when my five year requested a Lego Batman Birthday party.  Not just Batman, not just Lego’s, but BATMAN LEGO’S.  Since we live in Florida where the weather is great year round, we celebrated at a local park.  Parks are not only a affordable, but they keep the mess out of your house!  Additionally, I find that their playgrounds are usually all the entertainment we need.

The first order of business in planning a party for a five year old, is planning the games.  If you don’t have a way to keep the kids entertained then all your plans will be for nothing because chaos will take over.  Follow the standard K.I.S.S rule (Keep it simple stupid) for the best results.  I kept it about as simple as it could get with Lego play, time on the playground and an egg hunt.  I know, Easter eggs are not exactly the first game that comes to mind for a fall birthday party.  All I can say is that my five-year-old knows exactly what he wants and is not willing to compromise.  Anyone with a five year old will probably tell you the same!

Lego play took place in “Maddex’s Batcave”, aka a camping tent boasting a fun sign.  Inside the Batcave was an inflatable kiddie pool filled with Legos for kids to create and build.  The added bonus of the Lego Batcave is that it provided a shady place for kids to gather as guests arrived. Lego Batman Batcave

After a bit of pizza and snacks the kids were ready to get their crazies out!  We hiked over to the nearby playground to let the kids go nuts while the adults hid all of our blue Easter eggs around the shelter.  When the kids came back they were sent on an egg hunt with their customized goody bags.  The goody bags were a hit with kids and adults alike, and couldn’t have been easier to pull off.  All I had to do was peel the label off and stick it right on a black gift back.  The glory of these labels is that they will work on just about anything.  In fact, my older son used a leftover label on his shirt so he’d be fully festive.

Finally, it was time for cake.  This basic 8″ round cake was made to look like the bat symbol seen throughout the party.  Accompanying cupcakes were given a similar treatment with homemade cupcake toppers.Batman Birthday BonanzaLastly, you have to wash down your sweet bite with water from a stylish water bottle!  Water bottle labels are so simple and easy!  They are the perfect way to add the final punch to your decor, and I promise, they will always spark conversation.  These labels can be customized and purchased here.  DIY Lego Batman Birthday The final and most important tip for hosting your child’s birthday party is to ENJOY YOURSELF!  Sometimes the amount of work that goes into pulling a party off is just the thing that keeps you from enjoying your own shindig.  Let your guests help themselves and remember not to let the moment pass you by!

Hot Cocoa Party Favors

by

Hot Cocoa

Fall is finally here!  It stands to reason that your entire world has been taken over by pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING.  Not to say that Pumpkin Spice doesn’t deserve the attention, but I’d like to pay homage to another cool-weather classic: Hot Chocolate.  Overlooked and underrated, this little treat makes a great giveaway as a party favor.  It’s an ideal favor in fact, because it’s easy to create, offers a big impact and is oh-so-delicious!  So, listen up for the skinny on how to make the sweetest Hot Cocoa Party Favors possible.

First, gather your supplies.  Purchase cellophane treat cones at your favorite craft store…like these ones.  I only needed 70, so a few bags did the trick.  If you are making this favor for a wedding or larger event, I recommend purchasing them online as the cost should decrease.  Visit your local bulk food store (Bulk Nation specifically) and purchase about 5 pounds of hot cocoa mix, 2 pounds of chocolate sprinkles and a pound of mini marshmallows.  Next up: assemble the hot cocoa party favors.

Start with two and a half table spoons of coco mix, followed by two large scoops of chocolate sprinkles.  Finally, top that off with four, yes four, scoops of mini marshmallows.  Why so many marshmallows?  Have you ever know someone to say, “Man, this cocoa has TOO many marshmallows”?  Exactly.  The more marshmallows, the better, so fill it to the top with!

Hot Cocoa Party Favor How To

Cut down twist tie (like the ones that come with the treat cones) to seal the cone off and keep the goodies from falling out.  Lastly, tie a cute ribbon around the top to compliment your custom favor labels, which can be found here.  As you can see, they come out beautifully and they will be the hit of the party!  Now, go enjoy a steamy cup of chocolatey goodness!Hot Cocoa Party Favor

Trade Show Booth Design Success!

by

Wedding Booth Vintage TypewriterWith our second Wedding MBA show now behind us, it’s time to share our trade show success!  I’m happy to report our booth came together perfectly, and we received plenty of great feedback.  But, in spite of the compliments, Vegas was not without hiccups, and unfortunately not without tragedy.

Before mentioning our triumphs, it needs to be noted that we were in Las Vegas during the deadliest mass shooting our nation has seen.  The following days were both saddening and heartwarming; watching both the news and the outpouring of love in Vegas.  The Knot and Wedding Wire, typically competitors, merged their two show events into one large party.  This gave the attendees that magical ‘one big happy family’ feeling.  Thank you to the Knot and Wedding Wire for merging the parties so quickly and completely and allowing us all to relax in a secure and fun environment.  I think all of Vegas needed a drink that night… but when doesn’t all of Vegas need a drink?

Our booth came together seamlessly, thanks to lots of planning.  We featured a gold, blush and cream color palette. Dripping in flowers, our booth was a stark contrast from last years more masculine colors and feel.  We created an inviting space that would be attractive and make our booth impossible to resist.  Now THAT’S trade show success!Wedding MBA booth 6130

In addition to welcoming colors, we boasted favors and giveaways to lure in the most resistant of show-goers.  Our favor options included: a hangover kit, candy and popcorn.  The popular hangover kit included an Emergen-C, Mint Lifesaver and Advil… all the essentials for surviving even the worst hangover.  The label says it all: Hangover Survival Kit; YOU’RE WELCOME.  Believe me, we received many thanks for giving this out the morning after the Knot and Wedding Wire party!  These make a great addition to any Wedding Welcome bag, or bachelor/bachelorette party favor.  Purchase the fun label here, the kraft bags here.  Finally, but the goodies inside from Amazon here: Advil, Lifesaver, Emergen-C.

Hangover Kit with Custom LabelsOther favors included a sweet Smartie and savory bag of microwave popcorn.  The popcorn was a simple microwave bag, purchased from the ever-trusty Costco, but you could use any brand.  We used the same Kraft bags that were utilized in our hangover kit to create an adorable brown paper package.  Then, all we had to do was tie it up with string!

You can purchase Smarties in bulk from your local Party City.  Then, place it in this 3″ x 4″ self-sealing cellophane bag .  Next, add a small piece of chipboard and the perfect label, which can be purchased here, and you’ve got one SMART favor on your hands!Smartie Candy Favor with Custom Label

Our giveaways were our piece de resistance featuring 4 bottles of delicious and coveted BOOZE!  (Buy this CHEERS label here)  Here is one of our happy winners: a new friend from JC Room Blocks – a fantastic vendor that every bride needs!  If you are having a destination wedding, room blocks are par for the course, so give them a call!  You’ll be happy you did!

DIY Cactus Tealight Favors

by

With breezy Bohemian themed affairs making the rounds, we wanted to share with you our latest event swag: DIY Cactus Tealight Favors.  These cheery goodies will be a great compliment to a fiesta, cactus party, taco night or Coachella themed gathering.  Requiring minimal supplies and DIY skills, this favor will be easy to make for a novice DIY-er.  Here’s our handy tutorial:

  1. First, gather your materials.  We started awesome mini cactus tealights as our inspiration.  Use two types of cacti for added variety, like the Golden Barrel Cactus and San Pedro Cactus tealights, both available on Linentablecloth.com.  For the base of the tealights we used 2″ mini clay pots, like these, available in your local Michael’s or craft store.  They will serve as the base for our favor.  Next, we need these paper flowers, also sourced from Michael’s, to top our cacti, and this gold spray paint to transform our little pots.  Lastly, you will need 26 gauge wire for adding your favor label toppers.DIY Cactus Tealight Supplies
  2. Next, spray paint your pots.  This step is fairly self-explanatory, but here are some spray painting tips: use several light coats for even coverage and be sure to rotate your pots often so you don’t miss any spots.Spray Painted Clay Pots
  3. Then, remove the tealight tin.  The mini tealights fit so snugly in the little clay pots, that the tin is unnecessary.Tealight Candle Cactus Tealight DIY
  4. Next, clip your flower.  These flowers are ideal because they don’t have a plastic base, but rather are attached to a green wire.  This makes them perfect for fitting into the candle, just slide the wire into the hole made by the wick.  Be sure to trim any wire that may be coming from the top of the flower as well.Faux Flower Clipping
  5. Next step: Make your sticker topper.  We used two types of 1.5″ round favor labels, customized here, with wire sandwiched in the middle.  The wire should be skinny enough to fit into the wick hole along with the small flower wire.Sticker Topper DIYTealight Topper
  6. Finally, place your toppers and flowers.  Just slide them right in!
  7. Lastly, ENJOY!
